French Lavender - voila'!

It's Spring time in north Georgia - well, almost Spring time! Our winter started very early this year - the week after Thanksgiving, with a light snow, and cold temperatures for the past three months. One of the secrets to surviving winter is to look forward to Spring, wouldn't you agree? Plus, keeping warm, plenty of good comfort food (not too much, you don't want to add those "winter pounds"), and staying busy indoors. For me, that means sewing and quilting, almost non-stop, making quilts to sell at my Spring shows. My first show will be the Druid Hills Tour of Homes in mid-April (more information via the Show section of my website), so I've been very busy making Spring quilts.

The quilt shown above, French Lavender, is made from Vicky Stratton's pattern entitled "Jewel Boxes". I pulled out some of my lavender, purple, pink, and similar fabrics - all from my stash - and pieced these little scraps into a quilt that reminds of little sachets that you tuck into your lingerie drawer. Hand-dyed velvet ribbons add surface interest to some of the sachets.

Paris Update: Airfare? Done! Hotel? Done! Euros purchased? Done! Now, I plan to contact AAA to purchase a TravelMoney card . . . it's a Visa card, loaded with a predetermined amount, that you can use for purchases when you travel. What a great idea for so many reasons - it acts like a credit card, but without the conversion issues. I'll still take my credit card and my ATM card (just in case), but rely on the TravelMoney card for most everything. Itinerary? I've made a list of the things I want to see and do, then will visit each of the arrondisements (those are the different districts within Paris) to see what each has to offer, perhaps visiting one or two districts per day. My 'grand plan' is to eat as many pastries as possible, purchase unique fabrics and assorted sewing items, and walk through every garden . . . and hope their flowers and shrubs are starting to bloom! Everyone tells me that I have to see the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, but I doubt that I will spend much time on these sights. Instead, I want to visit the Postal Museum, and have high tea at one of the fancier hotels - more unique experiences, less touristy things. Counting down to March 25, my date of departure . . . and I'm so excited!

Oh lucky you! I dream of seeing Paris one day. I want to eat in the tower and check out all the shops.

Hope you have a blast!
