Let the Christmas Season Begin!

Christmas Fly Away is the name of this little wallhanging-sized quilt - it measures 37" x 55", and is made from a collection of Robyn Pandolph holiday-themed fabrics from several years ago. There's a story behind this quilt - I bought the fat-quarter fabric collection at Rainbow's End Quilt Shoppe in Dunedin, FL. I worked at the shop on Saturdays (best job in the world!), and received a very generous discount which allowed me to buy A LOT OF FABRIC. The fat-quarter bundle, stacked high with these beautiful fabrics, and tied very nicely with a pretty ribbon, sat in my fabric stash for a while. Once a year, usually in the winter when I have the time, I leisurely sort and re-stack my fabrics and always come across the Robyn Pandolph Christmas Fat-Quarter Bundle. It was really "too pretty to take apart and cut up", and that was my excuse for not making it into something beautiful.

While working on another quilt, I needed a certain shade of red, and one of thebundle's fat-quarters seemed to work just right. I pondered separating that bundle for a while, rummaging through the red fabrics in my stash, hoping to avoid the inevitable. Finally, when I knew that there was no other fabric that would coordinate with my current project, I gently untied the ribbon, and pulled "just that one red fabric" from the bundle, and cut it up. Well . . . now I had done it - taken the first step to actually "using" the fabric. With that said, I quickly went through my many quilt patterns and magazines, and came upon this design - which I modified (I always modify - using the original pattern seems a little ho-hum, I think), and that collection of beautiful reds, greens, creams, and browns became Christmas Fly-Away. It's still available for sale at $80.00 (shipping included) and would make a wonderful gift for yourself or a special friend . . .
