Community Volunteer Day - Save The Horses!

The "pesky day job" has a purpose (besides the obvious - food, clothing, shelter) - we also volunteer in the community one day a year, giving our time and talents to an organization that needs the help. For the past three years, we have volunteered at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and it's been rewarding. But this year, we wanted a change of pace, and we decided to work with Save The Horses, a non-profit organization that takes in unwanted horses - from owners that have come upon hard times and can't afford to keep them any longer, horses that are handicapped, abandoned, abused, and just need a safe haven to live out their lives, hoping to find a "forever home" with a new family.

Save The Horses is a large horse farm that requires many, many volunteer hours to keep it going . . . there a horse stalls to muck, food/water buckets to clean, horses to groom, and an assortment of farm animals besides horses also call it home - goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, pigs - you name the farm animal, and you'll probably find it! The above photo of Joe, Kevin and Brad - with big smiles - is testimony to the sense of fulfillment that we all had once our many jobs were done. Yes, we were all tired but it was a "good tired" after a hard day's work, followed by margaritas and Mexican food at Fajita Grill. I was very impressed with my colleagues' abilities to jump right in to learn how to do the many daily chores that enable this facility care for these wonderful animals . . . . thank you, Save The Horses, for giving us the opportunity to help you.
