The Ultimate Recyclable!

Many of us have traded in our plastic grocery bags for the more eco-friendly reusable versions - sold by our favorite grocery store, and emblazoned with their name/logo. Good for you if you actually remember to take them out of the car and into the grocery store with you. I usually forget mine, and end up with at least a dozen more plastic grocery bags that I use for . . . well, I won't tell you what I use them for, but the cats' litter box is cleaner because of these precious plastic bags.

But . . . I had read in several blogs about how plastic grocery bags were being knitted or crocheted into tote bags for everyday use, which of course, make them the ultimate recyclable! I had not seen one of these special bags until yesterday, when I was so lucky to be placed next to a vendor that actually takes these plastic bags, cuts them into strips, joins the strips, and then crochets them into the above handbag. I thought it was made from fabric when I first spotted it, because it has a band/handles that are a different color from the body of the bag, but she used two different colors of plastic grocery bag! Is that clever or what? I simply had to have this bag, and Tatiana was very sweet to part with it - yes, of course, I paid for the bag! I urged her to make more bags to sell at similar vendor events, and that other like-minded shoppers would be so impressed with the bags that they, too, would simply have to have one!

Tatiana is an expert crocheter - and you can see her crochet patterns, toys and supplies at - tattiscuties.etsy.com.
