Last fall, Terry at Dawson County Humane Society called me and asked if I could foster two mothers and their kittens. Not one litter and a mom, but two moms with their collective seven kittens. I thought about it for a nano second then said "of course!". Please understand . . . I already had three litters that were "in training", one of which was adoption-ready! But when DCHS asks for my help, I try my best to accommodate them because they do so much for the homeless pets of Dawson County.
The two new litters had wonderful mothers who not only took care of their babies, but didn't cause a single problem among my own cats. They were polite, ate their meals, and thankfully, were litter boxed trained. These two furry families came to me from less than desirable circumstances - one mother/litter was an owner-surrender, and the other mother and her babies were brought in by animal control personnel. When the kittens were ready to be spayed/neutered, off they went to see Doc Mills. Shortly thereafter, the two moms made a trip to the vet, too. In early December, all of the kittens were taken to the Shelter, ready for adoption, and I decided to adopt the mothers. They both deserved a good home since they had taken good care of their babies, and were really no trouble at all - but more importantly, I love them. The photo above is Bella, mother to three girls - Charlotte, Olivia, and Lulu - and one boy, Jasper. Both Jasper and Lulu look exactly like their mother - silky black fur, and a sweet, heart-shaped face. As of this writing, Jasper is still available for adoption at Dawson County Humane Society.
