4th of July in Cumming, GA

4th of July is a great holiday! Everyone dons their patriotic wear of red, white and blue and heads outside for a day of celebrating our independence as a nation . Good, hard-working people that enjoy coming together, especially in Cumming, GA. As mentioned in an earlier blog, Cumming celebrates the 4th of July in a traditional way, with fireworks, food, and of course, the Parade. Families come from five or six surrounding counties to line the parade route and enjoy the day. I just love a good, small-town celebration, and being new to the area, this was my first time to see it first-hand. While walking from where I parked my car, along the parade route, to the fairgrounds (where the parade ends), I happened upon the most delightful couple. Ann and Glad (Gladston) Sudderth, married 66 years (can you believe it!), were decked out in their 4th of July colors, and sitting in a shady area, along with their daughter, Cereta. They live in Buford, and although long ago retired, Glad still grows vegetables and honey as a hobby. I spent some time talking with them, and what a delightful experience! After promising to post their picture on my blog, I continued along the parade line until I reached the fairgrounds. Parked near the storage area that houses similar steam engines (with markers detailing the make/model and owner of each piece of equipment), several steam engines were "cooling off". Spectators were examining them up close, and they truly were a sight to behold. Enjoy the photos, and enjoy the rest of your 4th of July weekend. Don't you wish the 4th of July was always on a Friday? Me, too!
